ARC Consults to Academic Researchers

Academic researchers must maintain rigorous methods despite tight budgets and unpredictable service environments.  ARC offers practical solutions to these challenges.   Subcontracting to ARC means paying only for billable hours, sometimes at a lower rate than a comparable fulltime employee would cost when accounting for overhead and indirect costs.  It also means entrusting work to a specialist with the research skills of a principal investigator and the field skills of a practitioner.

Project Development & Oversight

ARC can take on any phase of a project, or conduct the entire study.  In addition to performing research responsibilities, we can manage every aspect of a project: obtaining the necessary approvals from Institutional Review Boards (IRB's) and government agencies; developing and managing the project budget; integrating quantitative and qualitative methods into an experimental, quasi-experimental, or exploratory design; and, hiring/supervising appropriate staff and consultants.  Follow this link to review two Harvard-affiliated studies we recently supported.

Instrumentation & Survey Development

ARC draws on theoretical sophistication with practical experience to identify the best constructs to measure.  Where appropriate instruments do not exist, we develop them.   For surveys in need of refinement and validation, we conduct thorough factor analyses and reliability testing.  Follow this link to review a selection of survey instruments we have developed and implemented in rigorous projects.

Quantitative & Qualitative Data Collection

Data Management & Analysis

We use Microsoft Excel and Access to manage statistical  data and JMP (SAS for Windows) to analyze it.  When coding qualitative data, we can work independently or collaborate with a team to enhance insight and reliability.  We specialize in relating quantitative and qualitative data to form holistic models that yield outstanding insight on outcomes and the processes that generate them. Where appropriate, ARC partners with experts to apply specific analytic approaches. We pursue leads in the data until we understand them because we recognize that findings we report will guide programming and funding decisions.

Reporting & Writing for Publication

ARC tailors reporting to those who will read it.  We provide scientific detail when writing for sophisticated funders or for publication, and we avoid jargon when writing for practitioners.  We always write with clarity and accuracy.  Please consider the following links and references for examples of ARC's writing:
